Manual trader
A trader that manages orders manually without any help from automatic trading software. -
Margin
Margin denotes the amount of funds required to deposit in the account in order to open a position and to maintain Open Positions, as determined in the Contract Specifications for each Instrument. -
Margin call
Is a point at which additional funds may be required to maintain open positions should the market go against the trader. -
Margin level
Is a relation between account's current equity and required margin calculated as equity/required margin*100%. -
Market capitalisation
The total market value of a company's outstanding shares. This metric is used to determine an organisation's size. Market capitalisation helps evaluate a company before acquisition. -
Market close
The end of a daily trading session in a financial market. Many markets also offer after-hours trading beyond the official closing time. However, the trading volume is significantly lower. -
Market correction
A decline in the price of an index or an individual asset of 10 to 20% from its recent peak. Usually, a correction lasts three to four months. -
Market depth
also known as Level II quotes. Is the liquidity that is available at different prices levels of a currency pair. -
Market gap
Is a market situation when: Current Bid price is higher than the Ask of the previous quote; Current Ask price is lower than the Bid of the previous quote. It may occur during major news releases, on the start of a new trading week and high volatility periods. Also referred as to Price gap.

Market maker
Is a type of brokerage that acts as the counterparty to the clients’ orders. It holds the other side of clients' trades and receives profit from clients losses. Also referred as to dealing desk broker. -
Market movements
Is an evaluation of how much the price of an asset has changed that allows to identify how volatile the underlying asset is. -
Market order
It is an order to buy or sell a currency pair at the best available current price. It does not contain any restrictions on buy/sell price or any specific timeframe. -
Market rate
The current price at which an asset can be sold or bought, determined by supply and demand. Also, Market quote and Market price. -
Martingale
A betting/trading tactic where the person doubles their initial bet/entry price after suffering each loss. This way, one successful bet/order would recover the loss. This practice, while sound in theory, has one significant flaw. A long enough losing streak may lead to losing all available money. Thus, due to the exponential attributes of the bet, an infinite amount of money may be required to get to the fabled 100% success rate. -
Master
Is a trader who allows others to copy his or her trades for a fee via Octa Copy. -
Master IB
A Master IB is an IB who refers not only traders but other IBs as well, and earns a commission based on the activity of these IBs. -
Meeting minutes
A detailed record of board meetings. Most traders await Federal Open Market Committee's meeting minutes as FOMC decides about interest rates and the U.S. money supply. -

MetaTrader 4
Is a trading platform developed by MetaQuotes Software and released in 2005. The platform provides a variety of tools that allow traders to analyze price, place and manage trades, and employ automated trading techniques. -

Michigan consumer sentiment
A statistical value reflecting how American households view their financial future and the economy's future as a whole. It is calculated by the University of Michigan every month. -
Micro account
A trading account that allows trading micro lots—1,000 units of a base currency (0.01 lot). -
Mobile trading
Mobile trading allows traders to access trading platform from their Android devices. One can also trade using MT4 and MT5 applications for iOS and Android. -
Momentum
A speed of change in market prices. It is used to determine the strength of trends—once a security price builds momentum in one direction, the probability of it continuing in the same direction is much higher.

Monetary policy
A set of actions to control a nation's overall money supply and achieve economic growth. Monetary policy might include changes to interest rates and bank reserve requirements. The policy is overseen by the Monetary Policy Committee, which is mainly responsible for keeping the inflation as close as possible to the nation's benchmark value. -
Money manager
A person or an organisation in charge of a client's investment portfolio. Money managers' services are compensated based on portfolio performance to avoid a conflict of interest. -
Moving average
A technical indicator used to identify general price direction, measure momentum, and determine support and resistance levels. Also, Simple Moving Average or SMA. -
Moving average convergence/divergence
A trend-following momentum indicator that shows the relationship between two exponential moving averages of an instrument's price. It indicates whether it is overbought or oversold. -
MXN
The currency code for the Mexican peso. -
MYR
The currency code for the Malaysian ringgit.
